David Carter

David was born and raised in Auburn, Alabama. When he started playing guitar at 17 years old, he quickly took to playing at open mics in the area. The founder of the Railroad Spikes, he draws inspiration from multiple genres ranging from folk country and bluegrass to alt-rock and grunge for his live performances and original music.
Johnny weir
Bass Guitarist
The master of groove, Railroad Spikes’ bass player Johnny Weir, hails all the way from Tampa, Florida. He started playing bass guitar in high school, joining and forming multiple bands as he found his love for performing live shows. After meeting David Carter his freshman year at Auburn he joined the Spikes just in time for their first gig as a band. After showing his prowess as a bassist at their first show, he became a core member of the band and has been pivotal in the band’s success over the past year.
Ben Spooner
Lead Guitarist
From Birmingham, Alabama, Ben Spooner brings a unique lead guitar sound to the Railroad Spikes. Known as the guitar player of myth and folklore, he started playing guitar around the age of 7 and began developing his true style through high school, drawing inspiration from a wide range of artists. After meeting David Carter in his second semester at Auburn, Ben introduced his blend of blues, fusion, and progressive metal to the band, which is quickly turning into one of the most unique live music sounds in Auburn.
walker Lee HINTON
DRUMMER
The human metronome Walker Lee Castellow Hinton's origins start on the outskirts of Pike Road, Alabama. Walker Lee began playing drums around age 10, drawing inspiration from mainly old-school rock and roll, punk, and metal. As he continued to grow in both age and musical ability, he started to draw from many other genres and musicians and strived to create his own sound. Walker Lee and David became friends in their freshman year at Auburn, so when The Railroad Spikes were formed he knew just where to look to find a drummer.
Cody Holder
RhYThm Guitarist
The Railroad Spikes’ newest member Cody Holder has lived all over the place, but he is known as a Huntsville native. As a guitar player of 13 years, he spent his teens playing at venues in Hunstville as a solo artist as well as being a member of several bands. After a short time attending the University of Alabama, Cody transferred to Auburn University where he met Railroad Spikes drummer Walker Lee Hinton. Walker Lee introduced Cody to the band, having him sit in at several practices, before playing his first show as a Railroad Spike in January of 2025. Cody has released music of his own as well, available on all streaming platforms. Cody draws inspiration from ’80s/’90s country music and alt-rock to add his influence to the Spike Country sound.
