David Carter and the Railroad Spikes is a country music and southern rock band. Though they all come from different areas, they met each other while attending Auburn University. Finding common ground in their love for music, they decided to form a band that lets the hammer down and commands a presence every time they step on stage.

David was born and raised in Auburn, Alabama. When he started playing guitar at 17 years old, he quickly took to playing at open mics in the area. Two years later he began writing original music and performing live shows around the Auburn-Opelika area. The founder of the Railroad Spikes, he draws inspiration from multiple genres ranging from folk country and bluegrass to alt-rock and grunge for his live performances and original music.

The master of groove, Railroad Spikes’ bass player Johnny Weir, hails all the way from Tampa, Florida. He started playing bass guitar in high school, joining and forming multiple bands as he found his love for performing live shows. After meeting David Carter his freshman year at Auburn he joined the Spikes just in time for their first gig as a band. After showing his prowess as a bassist at their first show, he became a core member of the band and has been pivotal in the band’s success over the past year.

Lead Guitarist

From Birmingham, Alabama, Ben Spooner brings a unique lead guitar sound to the Railroad Spikes. Known as the guitar player of myth and folklore, he started playing guitar around the age of 7 and began developing his true style through high school, drawing inspiration from a wide range of artists. After meeting David Carter in his second semester at Auburn, Ben introduced his blend of blues, fusion, and progressive metal to the band, which is quickly turning into one of the most unique live music sounds in Auburn.

DRUMMER

The human metronome Walker Lee Castellow Hinton's origins start on the outskirts of Pike Road, Alabama. Walker Lee began playing drums around age 10, drawing inspiration from mainly old-school rock and roll, punk, and metal. As he continued to grow in both age and musical ability, he started to draw from many other genres and musicians and strived to create his own sound. Walker Lee and David became friends in their freshman year at Auburn, so when The Railroad Spikes were formed he knew just where to look to find a drummer.
